Justin Estes- The junior kicker
leads Southern Mississippi in scoring with 58 points and was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA District VI All-Academic first team. Estes sports a 3.53 grade point average in marketing. On the field, he’s been successful on 10 of his 13 field goal attempts (76.9% accuracy) with a long of 49 yards. Oddly, all of Estes’ misses have been in the 20-29-yard range. Estes is 28-for-33 on extra points.
Cory Kriechbaum- This former Tiger multi-sport standout lead Marietta College in receiving with 33 catches and is third in receiving yards (284). Kriechbaum is tied for the Pioneer lead in touchdown catches with two as a 5-10, 180-pound junior. Kriechbaum (pronounced creek bomb) is fourth on the team in all-purpose yards and has six punt returns for 19 yards. Cory’s one pass attempt resulted in an interception. Kriechbaum had seven catches in one game.
Zane Eschbaugh- The 6-1, 195-pounder has done a little bit of everything in the Marietta College kicking game, getting off
33 punts for 1,118 yards good for an average of 33.9 yards and
six downed inside the opposition 20 yard line. Eschbaugh has been successful on his only field goal attempt (47 yards) and has run the ball once for five yards.
Sean Munfield- A 6-0, 170-pound freshman is listed as a wide receiver on the Marietta College roster. His contributions to the Pioneers, though, have been in the form of 12 punts for a 34.7 average. Four of Munfield’s punts have been downed inside the 20 yard line. It will be interesting to see if former Tigers Kriechbaum and Munfield line-up, simultaneously, as receivers for MC next season.
Jared Ross - A 5-11, 180 pound
freshman at Capital University, playing outside
linebacker, had his season cut short with a knee injury
during practice. He was required to have season
ending surgery to repair the knee.
Warriors Tame Tigers...
Anytime a defense can hold an opposing team's top offensive threat to 33 yards it usually figures to be a pretty good night.
When that same team can have a quarterback pick apart the opposing defense with the efficiency that Warren senior Clay Ellenwood had Friday night against visiting Marietta, it makes for a really good night.

Quakers Outlast Tigers...
New Philadelphia got an early "Quaker-up" call when Marietta tailback Perry Wheeler staked the Tigers to a 7-0 advantage with a 9-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter.
After that MHS TD, the Quakers scored 24 unanswered first-half points en route to a 58-7 triumph in prep football action at Woody Hayes Quaker Field Friday night.

Big Reds Outlast Tigers...
As one who has endured his own battles of the age-old series between Parkersburg and Marietta himself, Andy Schob had no trouble explaining what the rivalry means to him. "I know we came out on the losing end, but this is the kind of rivalry that builds interest in a sport in the community and in the school," Marietta's second-year head coach said following the 28-7 pasting the Tigers took at the hands of the Big Reds at Stadium Field Friday night.. MHS vs PHS selected in
Rivalry Series...
Presented by the United States Marine Corps, the Great American Rivalry Series for 2009 features 16 games all across the nation pitting the most outstanding high school football rivalries.
When the Big Reds got Ohio River rival Marietta back on the schedule this year, the GARS naturally picked up the Sept. 4 home game at Parkersburg's Stadium Field. From 1906, when the series began, the Big Reds and Tigers met 97 times - making it (at the time) the longest high school football rivalry in the nation.
When scheduling restrictions with the Mountain State Athletic Conference changed prior to this year, Marietta was immediately returned to the schedule and the rivalry resumed.
Richard A Ford, CEO of the Great American Rivalry Series, says, "We believe in the power this series has to highlight top high school football rivalries, which includes your annual contest with Marietta."
As part of the participation in the series, a senior football letterman from both schools with the highest GPA will be awarded a college scholarship. For the Marietta squad that is Senior Todd Stacy. He is a 2-year letter winner and member of the varsity track team. He is involved in FFA (past 6 years) and in 4-H. Todd has received his State Farmer Degree and placed in the Dairy Judging and tractor trouble shooting team. He currently owns and operates a sweet corn operation and plans to attend OHS ATI @ Wooster, OH next year.
One alumni player from each school will be inducted into the Great American Rivalry Series Hall of Fame. Rick Phillips, a 1983 all-stater who went on to become an All-American at West Virginia University, was the player selected to the Hall of Fame to represent the Big Reds.
Marietta's Pat MacRae was selected as Marietta
honoree. Pat was an instrumental member of the 1990 Marietta Tigers and stepped to the forefront during their rivalry game vs. Parkersburg High School. MacRae was the trigger man who intercepted a pass and galloped 82 yards to put Marietta ahead 6-0 during the first quarter from his outside linebacker position. The tigers never looked back and never relinquished the lead from that point. On the offense side of the ball MacRae also quarterbacked for the Tigers, passing for two more touchdowns and a total of over 100 yards.
Among the other 15 games selected for the 2009 season are: Lowndes vs. Valdosta (GA) on Oct. 9 and St. Edwards vs. St. Ignatius at Lakewood (OH) on Oct. 31. There is also a website which will feature more information on select games.
If time permitted, Perry Wheeler probably would've named every teammate on the Marietta High roster who blocked for him against Morgan.
The senior running back rushed for a school-record 320 yards on 33 carries and six touchdowns and two 2-point conversions to lead Marietta to a 59-20 triumph over the visiting Raiders in a season- and home-opening football game at Don Drumm Stadium Friday night.. Complete Story)
Marietta Dominates
Washington Court House...
The Tigers showed their defensive
prowess Friday against the Lions from Washington Court
House. The defense led the way in allowing only
1.9 yards per play (18 plays, 34 yards) enroot to
pitching a shutout. Meanwhile the offense racked
up 238 yards total offense in the half of varsity
action. The offense was led by runningback
Perry Wheeler who racked up 92 yards on the ground
on 14 carries including one touchdown. Dustin
Baker contributed another 41 yards on 5 carries.
Morgan Wynn was 3 of 4 passing for 78 yards and one
touchdown to Seth Detlor.
Marietta opens up for real this
Friday, August 28, against the Morgan Raiders at Don
Drumm Stadium with a 7:30 kick-off.
The Cambridge Bobcats escaped Don
Drumm stadium with a 13-7 win in a half of football
versus the Tigers Monday evening. The Tigers
twice, with the score 7-10, had the ball inside
Cambridge's 15 yard-line but coughed the ball up and
came out scoreless.
Tiger have another chance this Friday
night at 7:00 when the Washington Court House Lions
travel to Don Drumm.
Split Squad Orange and
White Scrimmage...
The Tigers held their annual Orange
and White intersquad scrimmage today with the white team
coming out on top 7-0 in a game dominated by both
defenses.
The defenses were the story of the
day as they caused six turnovers (2 int's and 4 fumbles)
with the attacking pressure of the new aggressive
3-5 defense.
The white team capitalized on an
orange turnover inside their 40 yard line and Perry
Wheeler broke two tackles and took into the end zone
from the Orange 4 yard line.
Linebackers can both deliver and absorb a lot of punishment.
Epitomizing this to the letter, Jared Ross was no stranger to physical play and playing hurt on the gridiron.
The 2009 Marietta High graduate tore his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) at the end of his junior season and played with a torn MCL (medial collateral ligament) most of last fall. Even so, the 5-foot-11 middle linebacker was the second-leading Tigers' tackler, and instrumental in helping the orange and black post a solid 3-3 Southeastern Ohio Athletic League (SEOAL) mark (4-6 overall) in 2008.
"Jared was one of the most dedicated players, and the emotional leader," said MHS head coach Andy Schob. "He's overcome much adversity with a positive approach, passion and intensity,"

Tiger
QB Cody Westbrook has capped his illustrious track career
with a 2nd place finish at the OHSAA DI Track and Field
Championship. He established a new MHS school record

two-time state champ Erik Kynard of Toledo Rogers winning
effort of 7' 1".
Eschbaugh to Wear the
Blue and Gray...
Marietta's
Zane Eschbaugh will take his leg to Marietta College to kick
for the Pioneers this fall. Although he is one of only
four Tiger receivers to have 1,000 career yards receiving,
he will only be kicking for the Pios.
"I'm really excited. Everybody dreams about moving to the next level and some people don't make it. Now that I know I have a chance to still compete, it's an amazing feeling," Eschbaugh said.
Tiger's Munfield to

Marietta's
